eNews September 2009 - Not just a pretty picture, Are you getting the most from your skyceiling? Featured Installation: Gazprom

A 46' halo produced by ice crystals in the high cirrostratus cloud layer. The altocumulus layer at the top of the photo is about 20,000 feet lower than the halo. Shot with Phase OneTM at 9,500 foot altitude.

It is our opinion that SkyCeilings are not just pretty pictures. They are not just innovative or stylish design elements. In the deepest sense, they are not even about the sky.

We like to think that our SkyCeilings are a technology - an artistic technology - whose purpose is to introduce the power and purity of nature into interior environments.

In "Ode on a Grecian Urn" John Keats concludes by telling us, "Beauty is truth, truth beauty, - that is all ye know on earth and all ye need to know." At the Sky Factory it is our belief that by delivering the full beauty of the sky, we can deliver truth - the profound inner truth of nature.

Why are we focused on the beauty of the sky?

Your SkyCeiling or Luminous Virtual Window installation is a beneficial and distinguishing addition to your environment. It provides a beautiful and relaxing feature for those occupying the space - why not let everyone know about it?

The McCreery Cancer Center in southeast Iowa uses an impressive image of their 10'x10' linear accelerator Luminous SkyCeiling in marketing materials and public advertising. They clearly show that their facility is not only state of the art in terms of technology and design, but also state of the art in terms of their concern for patient comfort.

Gazprom, the world's largest natural gas extractor and Russia's largest company, finished construction of the Gazprom Clinic in Astrakhan in 2008. The modern medical complex includes a 230 bed hospital and outpatient clinic for the historic Russian city near the Caspian Sea.

Client and designer wanted the entry hall to reflect Gazprom's corporate style and, at the same time, convey a concern for visitors' health and comfort. The use of natural objects and references to nature helped achieve this goal.

Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings, displaying large expanses of blue sky and white clouds, helped achieve the health goals by providing realistic illusions of skylights that foster relaxation and comfort for visitors.

The Gazprom clinic has been praised by Alexander Zhilkin, Astrakhan Province's regional governor, for providing a state of the art health facility that serves insured citizens as well as Gazprom employees.
