Kyushu Cancer Center
Kyushu opted to install a 6’ X 8’ (1.8m X 2.4m) Luminous SkyCeiling over a Siemens’ floor-mounted, sliding gantry CT SOMATOM Definition AS scanner, which can be combined with a ceiling-mounted angiography system like Artis Zee.
Both the CT and angiography system are designed to move in and out of position when needed, providing imaging on demand while the patient remains on the same table.
Despite the sophisticated equipment placed around the table, Sky Factory’s multisensory Open Sky Compositions command the patient’s field of view with an engaging perceived zenith.
The composition invites the observer to explore the razor-sharp foliage peering from the upper right and lower left while the diffused borders of high elevation clouds generate a palpable feeling of openness under the vibrant blue canopy of a high pressure system.
The Kyushu Cancer Center was established back in 1972 as the only specialized cancer treatment facility in Kyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. For over 45 years, the center developed as part of a larger hospital.
It now features over 400 patient beds and provides a range of sophisticated medical care, including dedicated departments for imaging diagnosis and radiation therapy.
