CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is part of a national network of cancer hospitals that pioneered integrative treatment designed to treat the whole person, not just the disease.
Built on a vision of hope and healing, CTCA is committed to the Mother Standard® of care—the same responsive, compassionate, personalized care that the CTCA team of professionals would want their own family members to receive.
Based on this philosophy, CTCA uses every moment in a cancer patient's journey to provide unparalleled service.
One way CTCA does this is by ensuring patients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible during their treatment. The Imaging Services department installed Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings™ in five different treatment rooms—PET/CT, MRI, two CT rooms and the Ultrasound suite—to create a calming atmosphere for patients.
"Our patients are surrounded by hope and encouragement the minute they walk into our hospital," said Susan Zook, director of Imaging Services. "Our exam rooms have soothing colors on the walls, hardwood floors to add warmth and piped-in soothing music. The SkyCeilings are just one more way CTCA delivers compassionate, integrative cancer care for the body, mind and spirit."
CTCA breast cancer patient Margie Fix raves about the SkyCeilings. "They do a lot for patients who have treatments that may last 30 minutes or so," said Margie.
"They are so peaceful and really soothing. The colors are beautiful and they make the scan a lot easier when you have something pleasant to look at, instead of counting the holes in the ceiling tiles. There is one image with a big tree that reminds me of a large apple tree in my hometown. I loved that tree as a kid growing up."
"It's amazing what you see in those images," continued Margie. "It really takes your mind off the procedure."
Sky Factory's content-based MRI lighting installations open up treatment rooms with multi-sensory imagery that communicates spatial as well as visual cues.
