Lancaster General Hospital
This project involved the renovation of 1,200 s.f. of underutilized space within Lancaster General Hospital's Radiology Department to create a new, 64-slice Computerized Tomography suite. The suite, a joint project between Lancaster General Hospital and MRI Group, a private medical imaging firm, was built to modernize the imaging capability available at the hospital.
The suite includes a large imaging space, control room, and a patient preparation space. Knowing that the imaging process can be frightening and stressful to some patients, the hospital radiology staff requested that the designers, Widdall Architects, research the possibility of using a sky image ceiling over the imaging table. The architects found that Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings™ would meet the project's technical and aesthetic requirements, and the desires of the staff.
"The use of Sky Factory Luminous SkyCeilings™ is an excellent way to enable the designer to provide the patient with the benefits of a natural skylight even on the ground floor of a multi-story urban facility," said Project Architect Scott Widdall.
The 4' x 10' Luminous Rectilinear SkyCeiling™ has been quite successful. The image relaxes patients, easing the way through, what for many is, a difficult time in their life.
