Explore our luminous sky ceilings in healthcare and commercial installations

Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, in Springfield, Oregon, is inspired by the lodges of the Northwest. From the porte cochère to the Douglas Fir lobby ceiling (featuring wood milled from the project site) and the stone fireplace, the building welcomes visitors with a natural warmth and comfort. Bringing the feel of home and nature into the architecture was a priority of the architects, Anshen + Allen of San Francisco.

In several clinical and scanning areas Luminous SkyCeilings are installed to enliven patients', as well as staff's and visitors', biophilia. Enlivening biophilia (our inherited attraction to nature and positive responses when in the presence of, or reminded of, nature) is a growing practice in new healthcare facilities. Natural daylight, window views to nature, plants, and nature pictures are common biophilic features in healthcare architecture.

Luminous SkyCeilings, though, are more than just pretty nature pictures — they are illusions of nature. The images presented by a Luminous SkyCeiling are so beautifully realistic that they can help trigger genuine biophilic responses of physiological relaxation and psychological refreshment. Enlivening biophilia helps patients heal, alleviate stress, and use less analgesics to manage pain. Biophilic illusions of nature are an important new healing tool.
