Southeast Alabama Care Center
Southeast Alabama Medical Center’s Cancer Center is a leading Radiation Oncology providing care to approximately 1,200 cancer patients each year.
SAMC was the first hospital in the state to associate with the University of Alabama Birmingham Cancer Care Network, an affiliation that allows the Southeast Cancer Center to provide greater access to clinical trials and treatment protocols aligned with those offered at UAB.
The UAB Health System Cancer Community Network includes hospitals across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Along with employing the most advanced technology available in the field of radiation therapy, Southeast Alabama Cancer Center incorporated the only research-verified virtual skylights on the market.
The four split Luminous SkyCeiling quadrants imbue the treatment room with an illusory view to open skies that relaxes patients. These multisensory illusions of sky engage areas of the brain involved in spatial cognition, bringing restorative benefits to patients and medical staff alike.
Observers experience this simulated connection to a natural exterior as expanded space, reducing claustrophobia, anxiety, and acute stress.
This unique type of radiology lighting is specifically designed to enhance the patient experience and enable staff to increase session take efficiency.
