Hidaka Hospital
Hidaka Hospital’s Department of Medical Radiology offers a full range of diagnostic imaging and therapeutic radiology. For the hospital’s new CT suite, featuring Accuray’s Radixact, the radiology team sought to dissipate the claustrophobic nature of the vault. By carefully selecting an Open Sky Composition and segmenting the image into quadrants, a Sky Designer is able to extend the perceived zenith past the ceiling, bringing palpable relief to the patient and staff.
At the same time, by also placing a series of Luminous Virtual Windows featuring a view to nature, also in segments, at the entrance of the vault, the space loses its confining attributes as the vibrant panels invite the viewer to explore their perceived proximity to a natural environment. Combining a Luminous SkyCeiling with a number of virtual windows creates an expansive, restorative space in oncology environments where the sophisticated and intimidating technology tend to cause much anxiety in patients.
