Mount Vernon Hospital CyberKnife
AD Architects has undertaken a number of cancer related projects at Mount Vernon Hospital over the last ten years, including an MRI laboratory, Cyclotron and Radio Pharmacy, and Linear Accelerator.
The firm recently designed the first CyberKnife robotic radiotherapy suite in the UK’s National Health Service. The facility includes a treatment room, control room and ancillary accommodation. The highly shielded treatment room is housed within a dramatically reconfigured linear accelerator bunker on the site and the facility provides state of the art radiotherapy treatment to NHS patients.
The architects worked hard to achieve as calming an environment as space and resources allowed. Beneficial biophilic elements were provided in the LED lit tree leaf patterns integrated into the wall that patients see when entering suite, and the impressively realistic Sky Factory Circular Luminous SkyCeiling.
Lead Architect Jim Haigh of AD Architects said, “AD Architects was pleased to work with The Sky Factory to supply the Circular SkyCeiling in the first UK NHS CyberKnife installation.
